DESCRIPTION: A large, Deco period, vintage belt buckle in yellow and black bakelite with carved, floral decoration.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Before the mid 19th century lots of clothes were made by a dressmaker and you chose your own accessories such as buttons and belt buckles. This bakelite dress buckle is very large and would have made quite a statement. If you want to use the buckle and it is too difficult to make a belt that fastens in the front – the buckle could be attached to the front and made to fasten at the back – maybe with velcro.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: It is in good condition. The metal bar has aged in colour. The bakelite is in good condition. The two parts have a tiny gap between but this is in the original manufacture. The pins joined the two pieces together are secure. It measures about 3 3/5 inches in diameter. It has been carved with pictures of flowers and leaves.
