    Description

DESCRIPTION: A small Czech. vintage filigree brooch. White metal with satin glass blue stones.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: All my information on Satin Glass is taken from Sibylle Jargstorf’s book ‘Baubles, Buttons and Beads’ published by Schiffer. Satin Glass was created in the 19th century. In the late 19th century satin glass was the most successful glass for the Czech. Gablonz bijouterie industry and the various companies took out their own patents. This brooch is probably from the 1920/30s. It has larger and smaller stones – some of them set into flowers. The metal is a silver colour – but the majority of the filigree pieces from the period are on a gold tone/brass metal. Although this brooch is quite small – it is unusual being on white metal and with the satin glass stones.

MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: The condition is good. The stones are intact and there is little wear. It measures about 1 5/8 inches across.
