Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a ?vintage, large, matt gilt, hinged bangle. It has amber, black and white diamante glass stones in three rows. The white and the smaller of the amber stones are oval. The black are pear shaped and the centre, larger amber/brown stones are actually set upside down – so the point is at the top and the flat side is underneath. The amber/brown stones have no foil. It is hinged – with a spring – and opens on the front – but you cannot see the opening when it is closed. The stones have claws but I think they are also glued – so they should be secure!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The firm Monet was started in 1937. The height of the popularity was the 1960-70s. In the year 2,000 Liz Clairborne bought the company and it continues to this day. They specialised in very good gold plating. I have look to see if this piece is in the book ‘Monet the Master Jewelers’ by Alice Vega (Schiffer) but could not find it. I think it is vintage but cannot be sure. The colours of the amber/brown stones are a little different from those in the picture – they are a pale honey yellow and a light brown – no red tones. If you are interested – see my blog on Monet in the blog section – My Notes on Manufacturers.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: Overall the condition is good. The matt gilt plating shows signs of light wear but no obvious scratches. The stones are in good condition. The spring clasp works well so the opening join does not show when worn. Would fit an average size wrist. The inside diameters are 2 1/8th x 2 1/2 inches.
