Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a vintage faux pearl, turquoise glass beads and gold tone necklace made by Marvella in the 1950s.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There is plenty written about Marvella on the internet. The company was founded in 1911. They later specialised in faux pearls and a lot of their jewellery includes these. As far as I can see the name used on hangtags was ‘marvella’ in small case letters until 1955. After that a copyright symbol was used. This hangtag has the lower case letters and no copyright symbol so I am dating it as before 1955. It is a mixture of faux pearl, turquoise blue glass beads and ridged gold tone beads with very small gold tone beads in between.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: The condition of the beads is good. The pearls are a lovely colour. The thread, however, did not look reliable so I have rethreaded it as it was originally. It measures about 30 inches. This means that some people will be able to put it round their necks twice – but only on a slim neck!
