Description
This is a green galalith belt buckle from the Art Deco period. It consists of two pieces of cut out decorated green galalith – see my blog on galalith. The buckle is just a bit lighter than in the picture – and is mottled, with specks of yellow. This was a time when clothes were often made by a dressmaker – or at home. A belt would be specially made for a dress and an interesting belt buckle would be fitted. The buckle itself measures nearly 2 inches across. The belt would need to be 1 1/2 inches wide. It is quite easy to make a belt to go on this buckle. Sometimes you can find a belt somewhere – of the right width – and replace the buckle. With care, it is possible to take the buckle fitting off and use them for another purpose! I would love to see it as a functioning belt!
