Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a Czech. vintage compact. It is in a gold tone colour and it has an ornate pattern back and front. The front has some glass stones including a cabochon green faux emerald. It opens with a push in knob at the bottom.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These Czech. compacts were very popular in the first part of the 20th century – no doubt bought by tourists to take home. This one has a leafy pattern back and front. It has painted enamel decoration round the central faux green stone. It has a push button clasp, a mesh liner and a plain black pouch (which may not – of course – be original). It is marked on the rim inside with the Reg. Design number 81564 and with a name I cannot read. On the bottom of the powder tray it is marked – ‘Made in Czechoslovakia’. It is a nice example of the Czech compacts of the period.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDTION: The outside of the compact is in good condition – the stones bright and the enamel good. The opening device works well. The plating on the inside has darkened a bit over the years although it does not look as if it has been used. The powder mesh has some marks and there is a very small chip on the outside edge of the mirror (reflected in the price). The mirror is otherwise in good condition. The compact measures just over 2 1/2 inches across the diameter.
