Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a Czech. dress clip from the Art Deco period. The centre stone and the surrounding stones are lapiz glass. The dress clip is made in a white metal. The surrounding 16 stones are set inside small metal flowers. The central stone and the smaller ones are all claw set. The large central stone is mottled in shades of deep blue. There are small sparkles to imitate lapiz.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Dress clips were made from the late 1920s until the early 1950s – when brooches again became popular. They are purely ornamental unless they were part of double clip brooch. They were very popular at that time but were not made before or since! This one is made to look like lapiz. A lot of Czech jewellery at that time imitated semi precious stones such as lapiz, coral and jade. It is quite large with a pear shaped central stone and 16 small stones set into metal flowers. The metal flowers overlap each other. It is made in a white metal. A piece of twisted rope design metal strip goes round the edge to hold it all in place. The backs of the flower settings are very pretty too. This can be worn on a V necked garment or clipped onto a lapel or through a buttonhole. I would wear it on a chain round my neck. Some of my customers have worn them in their hair.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: The condition is good. The stones are not cracked or chipped. The back clip works well. The dress clip measures appro. 2 3/8 x 1 1/2 inches.
