DESCRIPTION: A vintage, butterfly wing, pear drop shaped, silver pendant – quite large. Depicts a lady in a crinoline dress standing in from of ornate gates amongst flowers.
ADDTIONAL INFORMATION: This vintage pendant is typical of the popularity of butterfly wing jewellery in the earlier part of the 20th century. The design on the jewellery was reverse painted under clear glass. The butterfly wings were used for the colouring. They used Morpho butterflies which were collected after the butterflies had died. The pendant is marked ‘ENGLAND STERLING PI 202213’ This is before our Hallmarking regulations were introduced. The item has no hallmark and I am selling it as white metal. It has no chain but these are easily obtained and it is better to get one the length you want it. I have included 3 pictures because with changes of light it looks different!
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: Good condition for the age. It measures nearly 2 inches in drop and about 1 1/5 inches across.
