Description

DESCRIPTION: A vintage Bourjois ‘Evening in Paris’ perfume bottle inside a blue bakelite grandfather clock box – 1930s.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In in the late 1930s Bourjois issued a series of ‘Evening in Paris’ perfume bottles in side blue bakelite containers. The most famous were the Grandfather Clock, the Owl and the Door. Steve Mankervis – in his book ‘Plastic Passion’ – Schiffer – says the containers are made of ‘Blue Mottled Phenolic. Modled by Prestware in the late 1930s.’ On the back is ‘Boujois London Paris Regd No 837.401 Made in England’. Has silver coloured clockface on the front. See my blog – Manufacturers -Bourjois/Evening in Paris

MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: This has been in my collection for many years – stored out of the light so the blue colour is well preserved – unlike many of these items where it has faded – hence the more expensive price! It is in good overall condition. Not sure that the pink liner is original – it does not look right -probably just to transport item when I bought it. The bottle appears to be empty. The tassel complete. Not opening the bottle just in case! It measures top to bottom about 4 1/4 inches and about 1 1/4 inch wide.
