    Description

DESCRIPTION – this is an Art Deco necklace.  It has three small central pieces supported by a chain with a barrel clasp.  The metal is probably chrome.  Each of the central three pieces has  red glass long stone in a curved shape.  The central piece has a circular filigree circle that is set with black glass stones.  These were originally coated so that they looked like marcasite but some of the coating has worn off.  There is an addition black glass stone at either end.  The backs of the three pieces have a filigree decoration – that also helps to support the necklace.          ADDITIONAL INFORMATION – this style of short necklace was very popular in the 1930s.  Red black chrome being typical of the period.  There is nothing that makes me think of a particular area that this might have been made.  I am always glad to get these necklaces in a reasonable condition as they are nearly 100 years old and are lucky to have survived!  They are easy to wear inside a blouse or over the top of a jumper.   I like  to have a selection of these Deco necklaces in my shop at Alfies Antiques in central London.          MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION – The necklace measures 18 inches.  The central panel is about 3 inches.  The overall condition is good for the age.  Some of the black glass, faceted stones – coated to look like marcasite  –  have lost their coating but all are present.  The 3 red glass stones are in good condition.  The metal is still bright and shiny.
