Description
DESCRIPTION: A Vogue Vanities powder compact made in Birmingham in around 1948. It has an Arabian Knights themed scene.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Vogue Vanities was a Birmingham firm that made powder compacts etc. In 1942 an ‘Arabian Knights’ film was very popular and Vogue Vanities produced a series of powder compacts to target this market. This one was made in 1948. It has a beautiful scene on a gold tone metal base with a knight on horseback, buildings and flowers. The front is laquered to help protect it. Inside it is marked Vogue Vanities Trade Mark Made in England. Opening the inner lid is the space for loose powder – and a piece of felt lines the inside to stop the powder spilling when shut. If you are interested in the history of this company the Vintage Compacts Shop web site has lots of information – find it on Google.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: It measures about 3 x 2 inches. It is in a lovely condition. The mirror is in good condition. There is one small problem. The little catch that is meant to stop the inner lid opening is a bit temperamental. If it does not catch on its own then a little help pushing from right to left does the trick! The compact is over 70 years old!
