    Description

DESCRIPTION: This is a pharaoh’s head and wings brass metal centrepiece necklace with a green glass stripey drop hanging.  It is on a metal chain and clasp.  There are also a couple of birds with large beaks.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  This piece has come from a shop that closed in the early 1970s.   It was opened at the beginning of the 20th century and specialised in making up jewellery from old and new components.  In the 1920/1930s a lot of findings were bought in Czech. and these were used right up to the time of closing.  I am assuming the main metal piece with the pharaoh is an older piece – probably from around the opening of the Tutankhamun tomb.  A lot of the jewellery that was left in the shop was inspired by Egyptian Revival.  I do not know the date of the other findings – the chain, clasp and drop.  I have therefore to refer to the necklace as  Vintage Egyptian Revival Style.

MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION:  The necklace has a total length of about 23 inches.  I have a similar necklace from the shop and prefer mine to be about 19 inches.  This necklace could easily be shortened – if preferred.  The centrepiece measures about 2 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches.  It is unused and has aged a little.  The green drop is undamaged.   The unusual clasp works well.
