DESCRIPTION: This is a Czech., vintage, necklace set with iris or rainbow faceted glass stones. From around the 1930s.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This glass was created to imitate the rhinestone iris or rainbow quartz stones found in the river Rhine. The predominant colours are red, blue and green. Sibylle Jargstorf – in the book ‘Baubles, Buttons and Beads’ (Schiffer) says that “the old pre-World War I rhinestones have much stronger colours than the more recently crafted stones”. Nevertheless this necklace does have quite strongly coloured stones – some later examples look a bit washed out! I always have a selection of Iris glass items in my shop.
MEASUREMENTS AND CONDITION: The condition is good. It measures about 15 inches in length. The stones are all claw set and it is on a white metal. The spring clasp works well.
