Description
This is an Egyptian Revival style necklace. It consists of a gilt ‘wings’ central metal piece which supports a green glass scarab/cicada beetle. Hanging from this is a faux pearl drop. The sides are a chain of gilt metal with green glass beads. It has a small barrel clasp. The necklace has come out of a shop that shut in 1972. I have bought quite a lot of the stock of this shop. They specialised in making up jewellery from components – mainly bought from Czech. – some quite early. It is difficult for me to decide exactly how old the components are so I sell as is. A lot of trouble was taken in assembling the pieces and often the backs are quite ornate. Please see back photo too. This necklace is easy to wear. The neck measurement is about 19 inches. The gilt metal piece is about 2 inches.
